The Canes' pledge to field an entire team of kids who've never played football before continues with Ft. Lauderdale University DE David Perry's commitment tonight. Before his junior year, Perry had only played soccer and basketball. At this rate, by 2011 no film on any Miami player will exist at all. TRY TO PREPARE FOR THAT, WORLD!

Ft. Lauderdale (FL) University School DE David Perry committed to Hurricane coach Clint Hurtt Friday.
“I’m excited,” the 6-foot-6, 230-pounder said. “I have it done. It’s a done deal.”
Perry, who lists 20 scholarship offers, says he won’t take any official visits except to Miami. Among Perry’s other offers are the likes of Florida, LSU, Oregon and Alabama.
“When I told coach Hurtt I was committing he just told me congratulations,” Perry said. “I just liked it there, saw myself there, decided to commit there.”
Perry said when he attended a practice on an unofficial visit Thursday that the Canes weren’t in the lead.
“I really had no favorites,” he said.
But after watching the team work out and talking things over with coaches and his parents, he knew his future was at UM.
“I wanted to make sure that was the place I wanted to be, and it was,” Perry said. “I spoke to coach (Randy) Shannon yesterday and I’ll call him again soon. He just told me that I would fit in there. He’s doing a great job over there, is taking care of his players and making sure they graduate.”
Asked his goals at Miami, Perry simply said, “I just want to reach my potential.”
A tight end/defensive end prospect, Perry says he’s being recruited for defense.
“I’m excited,” Perry said. “My parents are happy because I’ll be nearby. They’re very happy.”
Perry, who will attend Saturday’s Clemson game and sit in the recruiting section, has 10 sacks so far this season.
It’s only his second season of organized football.
“Before (last year) I was playing soccer and basketball,” Perry said. “The coaches asked me to come and try out, and I did.”
