The Connect: Gators Are Effing Pansies Edition

This morning's Connect is dedicated solely to the cowardice that is the Florida Gator (Go, Gator!).  UF has rejected yet another proposal by UM to play regularly scheduled games; AD Jeremy Foley said in an e-mail to the Herald, "This may change, but if it did, it would not be on a schedule of twice every four years [as UM proposed].''  So...I guess it is matters most the pressure they are under, but only from the cupcakes they schedule outside the SEC.

Even this year's loss, which saw a brave bunch of high school seniors pin a national champion to the wall for 3 quarters before eventually folding, was my favorite game of the year.  Would that such explosions of hatred and intensity happened at least biennially.  Stupid yella lizards.

I would love to get a shot at Florida every year but I guess that it doesn't make sense

for florida to add another high caliber team that they have to beat to win the SEC when they can play. Southwestern Louisana state or someone like that.

Something's Missing

Did I see any touchdowns in that video? No?

Calling your team a bunch of freshmen is all well and good, but Florida had a bunch of underclassmen, too. And Florida did win. The excitement from that game was all defensive, as, as is evident in the video above, short completions were highlights for you folks, and our long strikes in the fourth quarter were more relief than anything.

That said, I do enjoy these games. I’d be fine with making a series of them, but Florida’s got a decent argument in their non-conference schedule. It’s easy to forget that they get Florida State every year, which used to be rough, and that, as long as the SEC isn’t as mediocre as it was in 2008, the SEC is plenty of schedule for any team.

Well

I noted it was a loss. I didn’t claim anything at all about our offense or yours, only that is was a really fun game.

A decent argument in their non-conference schedule wouldn’t involve Charleston Southern, Troy, and Florida Internationa, now would it?

Whatever happened to “anytime, anywhere?” Oh, that was us. You know, the ones who would like to play FSU aaaaand Florida.

"decent"

In the Victorian sense! Both teams will be wearing socks that cover their ankles! (Victorians also very fond of creampuffs!)

Well

It was a fun game. (I don’t think, though, that it was even the best game of that night featuring two Florida teams; remember that USF and UCF had a blood feud go into overtime that night.)

Yeah, as a Gator fan, I’d like to see more intrastate stuff, whether with you all or with USF/UCF. And, yeah, I wish I didn’t have to defend names like The Citadel and Western Carolina on schedules. But, unfortunately, it’s worked, in that the SEC brand name boosted them into title games the last two years when, in actuality, and especially in 2008, the strength of schedule wasn’t that great.

I can’t see it changing anytime soon. And I can’t see Foley/Meyer/whoever looking to go to South Beach every few years, ever, especially because of the Bourbon Street Brawl (and the subsequent Sugar Bowl Stomping), regardless of Miami’s status.

Surely

You can’t be serious in equating the renewal of the Miami-Florida rivalry with a game or two against UCF or USF.

Obvious Move by UF

O’ Great One…

This was an obvious move by Chicken Shit Foley. He knows, whether stated or not, that Urban won’t be around for long. And that Urban is one of the best to come around in a generation. Foley sees the writing on the wall. UF will drop down that one tiny tier, that puts them back on the level of say, a UGA. Challenge for the conference crown every other year, but not for a national title. Within a few months, this “We won’t play biannually” will turn into “Please let us out of our 2013 return commitment.”

Rumors abound

that they are actually trying wiggle out already. After using SEC refs for our end of the bargain at their place. But Foley wouldn’t confirm.

I hope the Tebow plaque unscrews itself from the wall and falls on his head.
