Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

The Connect: 03/09/09

Marketing Department uses swelling classical music in sports video, shocks nation  Breaking news? no.  Relevant to this blog's topic?  mmmmtangentially.  But at the 7:26 mark you can get 30 seconds of Randy Shannon making a pre-game speech, which is all you're likely to get in this lifetime.  I'd love to have seen his face when he got the memo cameras would be present in the locker room.

There's zero football news this morning, so we might as well take a gander at other UM sports.  It begins (and likely ends) here:

Senior Jack McClinton went 16-of-16 at the line in his last home game as the 'Canes came from behind to defeat NC State.  Miami (18-11, 7-9) is seeded 9th in the ACC tournament and will kick off against Virginia Tech in Atlanta Thursday at noon (TV: Raycom).  The Hokies have lost six of their last seven games; the 'Canes need to win that game and the following game against #1 seed North Carolina to keep their March hopes alive.

Former Miami pitcher Carlos Gutierrez is the first player selected to team Puerto Rico for World Baseball Classic play without having played in the Puerto Rican Winter League first. He is now in the Minnesota Twins organization.

I'm not gonna make it through this Connect.  WHEN IS LABOR DAY, AGAIN?!? [breathes into paper bag]

Baseball 'Canes went into the fifth inning against NC State down 7-1, came out up by one, and won 9-7 to complete its first ACC sweep of the season.  As of 3/1, Miami sits at #8 in the USA Today/ESPN poll.

Senior Murielle Ahoure won ACC conference titles in the 60-meter and 200-meter races, setting the meet record in the 200 twice, in qualifying and finals.  Ahoure was named the ACC Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Year - her first and the third consecutive won by a lady Hurricane.

Sophomore Ben Wilson of Orlando earned a personal best in possession sprints while competing against Miami-Dade Police.  Congratulations to all these fine athletes.
