Former Canes pitcher Luke DeBold loses his battle to cancer

Luke DeBold, relief pitcher for the Hurricanes from 1999 to 2002 lost his battle with cancer this morning at the age of 29. DeBold was a member of Miami's 1999 and 2001 National Championship teams in baseball. He finished as one of Miami's leaders in appearances and had a 1.74 ERA in 44 relief appearances during the 2001 championship season. Luke had been battling primary mediastinal non-seminomatous germ cell tumor with lung metastases since March of 2008.
