Teddy Bridgewater Commits

The "...bitches!" is silent but implied in everything we say from here on out.

Star-divide

So 2012 is looking up.

Randy Shannon fielded a phone call from Miami Northwestern quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and receiver Eli Rogers yesterday, in which both committed to Miami.

"I want to be an All-American, try to break records, win the Heisman and win a national championship," the four-star QB said. He told Rivals he considers himself a solid commitment, is unsure if he'll take additional visits, and is on track to graduate early.

Rogers' commitment may be considered a bit more soft.

Bridgewater completed 165 of 262 passes for 2,546 yards, 32 touchdowns and 12 interceptions as a junior and ran for 379 yards and five touchdowns. He also holds the Miami-Dade County record for most touchdown passes in game, seven, set against Miami Lakes in September.

He said he had known for a while he wanted to replace Jacory twice, but "I was just keeping it to myself."

GIGGETY.

From Larry Blustein
Teddy Bridgewater had just finished throwing yet another completion last Sunday during the 2010 Miami Nike Training Camp at the University of Miami when the talented Northwestern quarterback observed that maybe ``he should start going out on pass patterns instead of throwing them.’’

Then, the 6-3, 180-pounder caught a few passes and then headed back to go over routes with a number of quality receivers on hand for this impressive event that showcased football skill level — of course without pads on or the pressure of 275-pound linemen heading toward you.

Bridgewater knows that heading into his senior year that thinking aloud is sometimes a tough thing to do these days. Not when every recruiting services or fan website will write down just about everything that is said.

Let’s make this very clear to everyone who continues to have reservations about the talented Bridgewater: he is a quarterback all the way. The best in Florida and one of the country’s premier run/pass prospects. For those who continue to try and dispute that with their wisdom and ``overwhelming’’ knowledge of what colleges are looking for, you should stop right now.

I get the chance to talk with dozens of college coaches each week, who talk about athletes across the state. From the Pac-10 to the ACC, SEC and just about every level, and all agree that Bridgewater is one of a kind. An athlete who has accomplished so much, but yet has so much to learn.

Having followed his career for eight years now, I have a pretty good feel of what Bridgewater is all about. I know his football skills as a quarterback, receiver, defensive safety and as a teammate who is funny and rarely lets anything get to him.

Colleges who are willing to shell out hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarship money have already formed and sealed their opinion, and guess what, where you see him play right now is where he will be for a long, long time.

Bridgewater is the ultimate competitor, who might not seem like the fire is burning, but do you follow him home, where he spends countless hours watching film and learning? Do you stay after school with him when he works with his teammates?

While many recruiting sites and reporters continue to try and shake something out of Bridgewater, you can guarantee that he is fully in control of his present and future, and while he will listen to advice, he understands that the ultimate decision on where he will attend college will be a family decision.

Like he has done since arriving at Northwestern from Bunche Park, all Bridgewater has done is turn heads. From leading his team to he state championship game as a sophomore to his performance last summer in Oregon, when he showed the elite in the country that he is one of the best at what he does during a national 7-on-7 event. He continued to do the same last weekend when he was rated as one of the best at the Nike Camp.

One out of millions does not disprove the stereotype.
