A little birdie who’s friends with someone close to Miami football coach Al Golden sends the following report: "[The person who's close to Golden] says Golden plans on getting rid of the current uniforms next season and going back to the uniform template of the ’80s. He also said they would only break out the Pro Combat uniforms for one game — home versus Ohio State."

Doesn’t look like the link came through. Here it is: http://www.uniwatchblog.com/2011/01/11/so-much-for-the-blur/
Were those old unis made by Russell Athletic?
I wish Golden would wait to go back to the old unis. Wait until these guys have “earned” it. Like Bo Pelini and the black shirts. It took a few years of high performance for the D to get them.
In one of his pressers Golden said there would be a “price to pay to wear that U.” This seems like crowning them as unmeritorious heirs to the 80s dominance.

Does this mean
Nike is no longer using Miami as a template school? Since 2001 Miami has been #2 to only Or-uh-gen for number of different base jerseys.

I understand the worries about premature 'crowning,'
And I initially had that notion. However, this reminds me of Dan Devine’s making the kelly green uniforms the norm at Notre Dame on the way to a national championship. Yeah, he made that switch in year three of his tenure, but I imagine that Golden feels a need for a little immediate motivation. I don’t think that Golden making this change right off the bat will alter his hard-nosed approach to the game or his commitment to player development and intensity. I guess we’ll just have to see what happens…
