Lamar Miller To Enter NFL Draft

Photo

And so the assmebly line rolls on. Canes RB Lamar Miller, easily the most dynamic offensive player that Miami has had in a decade, will enter the NFL Draft, according to CBSSports's Bruce Feldman. Though Miller only started one year at UM, the move is unsurprising: Miller is a first round talent, and as the school that dealt with year-ending knee injuries to Willis McGahee and Frank Gore knows, ACLs don't always last forever. Miller to the NFL, though hard to swallow for UM fans, is rather cut and dry. Where the team goes without him is a bit murkier.

Star-divide

Senior Mike James is presumably the leader in the clubhouse, but last year was a major step back for him, as he ran for only 3.8 yards a carry on the season. Junior Eduardo Celements would theoretically be next in line and though he did emerge towards the end of the season as a third down back, he only carried the ball 15 times last year. Behind them is freshman Darion Hall, who saw some work in the Spring Game but was redshirted this year. And then of course, there will be the fan favorite: incoming freshman Randy "Duke" Johnson. Johnson is the best running back in South Florida, and rated as the No. 2 overall back in the state. He's fresh off running of running for 375 yards to send Norland High to the state finals and fans will undoubtedly be pushing for him to see immediate playing time for the Canes next year, and he may very well be worth it. UM is also slated to bring in Danny Dillard, a three-star back out of Venice, FL, and will likely be on the hunt for one more big name runner. Two names to watch on that front: Pennsylvania RB Greg Garmon, who was on UM's campus this weekend, and Georgia RB Mike Davis, an ex-Florida commit that recently re-opened his recruiting.

Is anyone really that surprised? It just made too much sense for him to go to the NFL. Best of the luck to ya Dash.

I think the reason Golden started mixing Clements in at the end of the year was because they knew Lamar was as good as gone.

Not shocked at all

He was the second RB on most boards I’ve seen. Another season at the U would have been another year of risked major injury (see McGahee, Willis) and RB careers are just so short in the NFL. Portis was done before he turned 30.

hopefully he'll be part of a new TD streak on Sundays

Cheers Lamar

with the new rookie wages

i think a lot more people are going to leave early. there isnt as much incentive to stay around and try to solidify yourself as a first round pick
that said i dont know where he goes. the league doesnt value RBs as much anymore and less and less are going in the first round.
either way. good for him hope he does well. excited for the guys we got coming in next year. duke is averaging 10.5 yards a carry! that guy is gonna be a monster

this also works the other way

theres a lot of reasons to stay in college longer since the money isnt going anywhere. unless im mistaken, the higher draft picks do get more money, but its a set amount. so there is a bit of incentive to stay and possibly improve your draft stock. the issue is that for RB’s there is so much more of a risk doing so because of the ease with which a season can be ended.

Good luck to Lamar, he is going to be a beast of a pro

Tough loss

This one hurts. I hope James and Clements are up for the challenge next year. The OL — which should be improved and quite good — should help. Perhaps if Duke turns heads in camp he could get on the field some as a freshman? Golden doesn’t seem to share Shannon’s reluctance to play freshman who earn playing time.

well, theres news that OL Brandon Washington

may be going pro, which is a huge hit to the line.

Well, at least Golden hasn't pulled a Todd Graham

…yet.

Here’s to another season of 6-6.

lol you need to calm it down.

you telling me that a guy who took temple from 1-11 to 9-4 in three years cant turn around our program in the same amount if not shorter time? with the access he has to talent in the miami area, plus any of his connections up north, hes going to do great things. anyone, including you, my friend, who are on the “Golden should be gone after one season of 6-6” train need to take a step back from the Randy Shannon gatorade bucket. This guy turned a shit hole* like Temple around, he can do it here.

*probably not a shit hole, but i said it anyway.

¡Cálmate!

When did I ever say “Golden should be gone”? I like the guy (although I don’t like losing to Maryland, UVa, BC [who Duke beat] in our “bowl game”). If I wanted the guy gone, I wouldn’t have said:

at least Golden hasn’t pulled a Todd Graham

I’m just preparing for another 6-6 season next year.

shots fired

i would normally have disagreed with you, but with all the recent early draft announcements, id say 6-6 would be great. although the team will have a bunch of talent. i dont see him pulling a Graham anytime soon. there can be only one todd graham. i also noticed that @saveumfootball shares my point of view on the whole Golden thing. with all these kids leaving, he gets to coach his guys, his way. This is why i think 6-6 next year, while it will be acceptable under the circumstances, will be eclipsed

LM6 did the right thing for himself. I have heard that he has had shoulder issues on and off since high school. Running backs take a great pounding and his family isn’t exactly rolling in money either. We have Duke Johnson as an early entry I think and he is touted as being as good or better. We shall see! Anyway good luck to you LM6 – make us proud
