Around SBN: NFL Roundtable: Which Draft Pick Is Most Likely To Bust?

Its probably the most biased piece I've ever read, but there are some valid points, like:

"Yahoo! had NO WAY of actually linking those charges to the players other than Shapiro’s word. This is akin to me telling a reporter that I bought a TV for Tim Tebow in 2008, and as proof, I have my Discover Card statement with a charge at Best Buy."

It also brings up a point about Randy Shannon doing everything in his power to keep Shapiro away from the team. Which makes me wonder, does that then negate the "willful violators" clause the NCAA is planning on using? Because if that clause is out the window, then it would seem to me that only the past 4 years is eligible to be investigated, which means we might be able to survive this thing mostly unscathed, as there weren't a whole lot of violations during the Shannon years.

great points, but this is still a crappy situation for us even if the ncaa only proves 25% of the allegations

And then there is the report that Kirby asked RS to be nice to the guy, which on the one hand makes it sound like the adm knew and didn’t take into account that RS was uncomfortable and on the other hand maybe he blew it off because RS shunned everyone and on the other hand there is the alleged almost fistfight with the compliance guy – all allegations, nothing proven yet other than this makes me a circus freak with too many hands….

I don't think that's incriminating at all

Shapiro was a booster. He gives the University money (in a legit way… minus the fact that the money was dirty from the Ponzi scheme, but that’s besides the point). Of course Kirby would want his head football coach to be nice to the guy. If the head coach is calling a booster an asshole, there’s a pretty good chance the booster is going to stop giving the University money.

Over 72 players, coaches, and staff involved

if they don’t find enough to ban 40 scholarships I will eat crow! Put that much of an investigation on any school in the country and the smoke will give to flame. If he lied about 70 percent your still looking at 3-4 years. If he lied about 100% your looking at the loss of 2 years of recruiting during the investigation and whom ever transfers. UM’s best chance is bringing up the fact that their compliance guy the whole time is now with the NCAA bringing the investigation! UM should have its day in court for sure. He was a UF grad! The article seems to think that they only have a good case against 12 players, which, if you go through all of yahoos reports, might actually be about right. And these cases all came during the Larry Coker era.

Keep in mind the NCAA’s investigation has been going on for over 5 months already, so it could be over much sooner than you think.

I will agree with you that even if 12-20 of allegations are true, we’re still in some shit, but it won’t be nearly as bad as some people (namely Yahoo!) seems to think, and certainly not a canceled season.
