Open Thread - Virginia Tech Hokies at Miami Hurricanes
Virginia Tech Hokies at Miami Hurricanes, Feb 9, 2012 9:00 PM EST
Opportunity is knocking. Will the Canes answer?
Following a season-changing victory at Cameron Indoor Stadium Sunday, Miami looks to build off of it tonight against the turkeys Hokies in what hopefully will be a run to the big dance. At 2-6 in the ACC, this matchup appears to be one that strongly favors Miami. However, looking at VTech's conference results, it's not a matchup that Miami can take lightly, as the Hokies have been competitive in nearly ever game. Each of their conference losses have been by 4 points or less, with the exception of Duke/UNC.
Tech is led by point guard Erick Green, who is averaging 15.7 ppg and shooting an impressive 38.5% from behind the arc. Hopefully Shane Larkin or Durand Scott, whichever will be on him, can continue Miami's streak of solid perimeter defense.
National audience tonight, as the game is being carried on ESPN2. Go Canes.......

Canes looking good at halftime.
I would have liked it if they held onto that 16 point lead going into the half, but I’ll take 8. I’m still nervous about this game, half-expecting a let down after the big Duke win.

Kadji only big guy on court
and he just took a 3. I know he can make them, but come on. Feed him in the post. I like him with his back to the basket vs anyone tech can put on him.

Color commentator just said Duke win would be "rendered meaningless"
with a loss here tonight. Uh, it would hurt, but come on. That’s so far from the truth.

Erick Green starting to take advantage of lazy defense
completes an and-1 to make it 47-40. Miami looking like they’ve never seen a zone defense.

Pretty spotty crowd for a team who just beat Duke.

And Miami wins it 65-49
Although they’re tied with UVa for 5th in ACC, they are only one game back of 1st place in ACC standings at 6-3. More importantly, they avoided an emotional letdown after a sky-high victory in Durham.

nice win
how is this team not getting fan support? They play on campus in a nice stadium, and they just beat Duke. What more does it take to get the students out? If its still the same as when I was there there, tickets are free for students.

Yeah
Seriously. This blows my mind. Apparently they even gave free wings to students to try to get the asses in seats. I do not get it.
