Miami Hurricanes 2012 Commitments: QB/WR Breakdown
National Signing Day brought Canes fans a lot of ups and downs, but mostly ups. There were no huge, ground breaking surprises over all (yes, even Tracy Howard.), yet there were plenty of reasons to rejoice about the job that Golden did. Now that it has almost been 24 hours, we here at T7F have sat down and taken a look at all of the brand new Canes to evaluate what exactly we got, and where they will fit in with the current players. In this post, we will take a look at the positions of quarterback and wide receiver, and give you a short breakdown of each player that has begun the next phase of his football life in Coral Gables.
Where Miami Got Better, Where It Didn't
With 33 signees, the Miami Hurricanes are bringing in the biggest recruiting class in the country. But that doesn't mean that Al Golden and his staff dramatically improved the team at every position. They connected in quite a few important places, but also swung and miss on a few key players, and still left some holes in the depth chart unfilled. This, of course, is still a great looking class that sets Miami up to rebuild from the bottom up while not having the bottom fall out, but it's not perfect. Let's look at the positions where Miami helped itself, and where it's really going to have to focus on as the 2013 recruiting cycle heats up.
Better
Cornerback: The Canes snagging Tracy Howard is arguably the story of recruiting in the state of Florida for the 2012 cycle, and his impact on this class looks just about immeasurable. From a PR and morale standpoint, it's hard to think of anything within reason that would have been better than Miami keeping Howard home with a big push in the final stretch. If he isn't starting in Game One, then that game will merely start the countdown until he does. But Miami also added a bunch of depth at the position, signing what looks like at least five corners behind Howard, though you never know how these things will shake out when guys get on campus and start getting bigger. Guys like Nate Dorch and Larry Hope and Vernon Davis weren't highly pursued, but Golden and his staff only need to hit on a few of the group to make a big impact.
Open thread- Maryland Terrapins at Miami Hurricanes
We interrupt your national signing day euphoria for a basketball game between your Canes and Merrrrrrrrrland. Both teams sit at 3-3 in the ACC, with Miami having won 5 of the last 7 meetings. Miami will have to deal with MD guard Terrell Stoglin and his 21.3 ppg, but the Canes' D has been strong recently.
Go Canes....

UPDATE 8 - Davante Bourque has chosen to stay at Tennessee. Looks like Brisoce did what he could, but it was not going to happen.
UPDATE 7 - Dequan Ivery has picked the Canes, and Dorial Green-Beckham has picked Mizzou.
UPDATE 6 - Brandon Holifield, a TE with 1 year of football experience, announced he will not sign anywhere today, and Miami is now out of the running. No details on why.
UPDATE 5 - Eddie Goldman signs with FSU. Miami was an extreme longshot here, but FSU is doing big things on the defensive side of the ball.
UPDATE 4 - Tracy Howard has signed with Miami!!! HUGE HUGE GET! He will join Crawford and Bush in the defensive backfield. All three have VERY good chances of starting.
Miami Hurricanes Recruiting Update - It's NSD Week, Get Ready!
Yes, this is it folks, that time of year where grown men go crazy over high school athletes. As sad as some of it can be, with the obsessive tweeting, threats, etc, the majority of us keep a pretty even keel when it comes to recruiting. Wednesday is a huge, life altering day for these kids, and some mind changing is bound to happen. As a lead up to the day we are all waiting for, here's a brief update on the past weekend and what we can expect come February 1st.
Open Thread - Miami Hurricanes at Boston College Eagles
Miami takes on Boston College, who at 7-13 (2-4), present a potentially winnable game and a chance for the Canes to creep back to .500 in the ACC. With matchups looming against Duke and Maryland, games like this are critical if Miami wants to have any kind of realistic shot of hanging around the middle of the ACC this year. Miami is coming off its best defensive performance of the year Tuesday night in Atlanta, holding the Yellow Jackets to 49 points and moving the ball efficiently on offense with Shane Larkin starting at the point.
Let's see if they can make it two in a row today in Chestnut Hills. Go Canes......
Canes Ranked 13th in Preseason College Baseball Coaches Poll
The ACC and SEC both lead the way with 6 teams each in the poll. Miami also sits at 18th and 14th in the Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball polls, respectively. Discuss if you like.
Miami 64, Georgia Tech 49 - Doing It With Defense
What a difference a couple of days can make.
After an embarassing 78-73 home loss to NC State that was far from close for most of the game, the Canes responded in a big way Tuesday night. Kenny Kadji scored a game-high 21 points with 8 rebounds, Malcolm Grant added 16 points on 4-of-6 shooting from behind the arc, and the Canes beat Georgia Tech in the Phillips Arena 64-49 to earn their second conference win.
Larranaga ran out a new starting lineup of Shane Larkin, Durand Scott, Grant, Kadji, and Reggie Johnson, and the results were compelling.....
